This image was created based on conversation with Haitian friends as well as trips to the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana.
This symbol for Rythm came to the United Stated from Haiti, often by way of New Orleans. The symbol is still in modern usage.

The symbol is critical for rythm and music. There is also six-fold symmetry.
